Last night!

Hello parents,

Sorry for the late post!  I know many of you have gone to bed, looking forward to seeing your son or daughter tomorrow.  We've all just come back from a great evening of music, games, and stories.  The kids seem both sad to be leaving Istorlet and excited to be coming home and seeing their families.  We've had an amazing time, and you'll all be hearing lots of stories about the counsellors, the food, the great activities, and all the silly inside jokes.

We have a very early morning tomorrow \(the head counsellor won't say what time exactly, but I have a sneaking suspicion it will be around 5:30), and a big day on the boat.  The kids will be having their lunch on the boat, and the expected arrival in Souris is 1:00.  If it will be anything like last time, I suspect we'll be a bit later than that.  On our way to the Maggies the boat started about 25 minutes later than expected.  We're hoping to arrive in Summerside at 3:00.  Once again we may be a bit late.

Thank you to all of you for all your cooperation and support.  We greatly appreciate you placing your trust in us and allowing us to take your child on this cultural adventure.

See you tomorrow!

Thursday, June 16 THERE IS LIFE AFTER THE CANUCKS LOSS!

As we awoke Thursday morning, after a beautiful rainbow setting (double one at that) Wednesday night, we expected to start the day with a bang.. With news of the Vancouver Canucks losing to the \Boston Bruins, as well as cloudy skies and winds from the Arctic (at least it felt like it), the mood at camp was a little somber. That hardly put a damper on the plans for the day.

As previously mentioned in the other posts, the camp counsellors are great at what they do. They planned for an array of activities that could be done indoors. The students broke into three groups. One group played bingo under an open tent and did a few other activities. Another group painted flags and created other pieces of art, showing off their artistic abilities, in the cafeteria. Finally the last group had their own version of American Idol, named appropriately enough "Istorlet Idol". I remained with this station all morning. I was thrilled  to see so many students participate, wearing a variety of crazy, funny looking costumes and accessories. They danced, they laughed, and had a great time. It was a blast! The top 3 acts voted by the judges present to all the students tonight. Looking forward to it. Who knows, the teachers may have number in store for them. Stay tuned!

Another day full of activities

Hello all,

What a day!  It was hard waking everyone up in the tents this morning - Sean S. was a big help!We had another big day, with kids going to kayaking, biking, walking, sailing, and archery.  I was at archery this morning, and while I won't be at the olympics any time soon, Brae and Abby M. did an amazing job!  Abby won the game for everyone, and Brae racked up the points.  My team didn't do so well, so I had to eat my lunch without utensils.  It wasn't so bad - until I found out we had ice cream for dessert.

Tonight was games night - it was lots of fun.  Everyone has headed off to bed, and they hopefully got a glimpse of the beautiful double rainbow.

The kids are doing a great job getting used to their new schedules - they're going straight to bed, washing their own dishes, and speaking lots of French!  While I watched from the balcony today I was amazed to see all the new friendships forming, and everyone cooperating together.

Tuesday, June 14

Hello Parents

We had a wonderful day again today. Although it was a bit windy, all the regular activities went ahead as scheduled and the children enjoyed their day.  In fact as I am writing this blog I can see them outdoors running around as they are enjoying their evening fun time with the camp counsellors.  The children have settled nicely into their routines and are quite content.  I was fortunate to be in the group that went on the walking tour.  The tour included a long walk on a beach as well as an opportunity to see this part of the island chain from an elevated location...the view was spectacular!!!!!!!!!

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Hello,

What a great day we had here in the Maggies.  We woke up bright and early for some morning exercises and stretches lead by our new friends here at Istorlet.  After, we had a delicious breakfast ,we split into our groups for the morning activities.  The different activities in the morning included: archery, very fun, I participated and had as much fun as the kids, it was very well organized and safe.  Cycling, the cycling group headed into a little village and visited a few artisan boutiques, they also went to the beach where they made sand castles.  Hiking, they hiked large rolling hills and saw some of the beautiful Island scenery, I heard it was breath taking.  Mr. Gallant enjoyed it so much he also went also in the afternoon :). Kayaking, sailing, and wind surfing were the water activities.  The students seem to really enjoy them, I will find out for myself tomorrow.  We celebrated Georgia Bakers' birthday today.  She had her room decorated and birthday cake for everyone.  Tonight, we played a huge game of capture the flag, it was awesome.  Overall, we are having a great time.  The camp counselor's are amazing, new friendships are beginning and routines are already beginning to be established.  I have a feeling that there will be a lot of very sleepy kids tonight.

We've arrived!

Hello parents!

We've all arrived safe and sound!  Right now there are 67 excited kids running around the camp and settling in. The cousellors are doing an amazing job - they've been leading the students in songs and games.   Most of the girls are in one large dormitory, and the boys are in studios.  There are 10 boys in two large tents. Right by the tents is a litte pup tent for the lucky teacher on duty:) Tonight is Mr. Gallant, and I'm on tomorrow night.  The ferry trip was a lot of fun - the food was great, and we even saw some dolpins as we approached the islands.  The kids will be starting the activities tomorrow. I glanced at the schedule, and there will be kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, biking, and archery.  The kids are divided into teams, and they'll get a chance to do all the activities in turn.

As I type this, the kids are having a quick snack next door.  They're excited and chatty, but fter all the excitement today I think (hope) they'll sleep well tonight!

Check back for another update tomorrow!
